Spanish carpet, 20 x 25. Made in 1967 to the order of Clare Booth Luce for her home on the grounds of the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona. Luce was the wife of Henry Luce, founder of Time Magazine. She was the first U.S. female ambassador, a playwright of The Women, author, and U.S. congresswoman. The carpet has a playful design of men in waistcoats and britches, each with upraised arms, each flanked by pairs of birds. #spanishcarpet #clareboothluce #arizonabiltmore #henryluce #timemagazine #waistcoats #britches #firstfemaleambassador #thewomen #arizonainteriordesign #rugswithastory
